Nyernilang Lar is a name that was provided to Early Learning Victoria from Dja Dja Wurrung. It is a Dja Dja Wurrung word - or words, rather - meaning ‘learning place’. And it couldn't more accurately reflect what this place means for the children and staff and families who come here.

One of the main reasons we approached the Traditional Owners to assist with naming the centre is to really ensure that First Nations perspectives are embedded - whether it be through the design of the centre itself or also the use of language.

By using language in the name of this centre, we're helping to create a culturally safe place for families to come. It's really opened up dialogue for us between the Traditional Landowners, the families that are here, and the educators.

And we've been able to build a really trusting and secure relationship that we can really build off to be able to start to move forward.
